Spearhead Range (Spearheads)
Parent Area: Garibaldi Ranges

Area: 83 sq km.Location: The Spearhead Range is located ESE of Whistler Village, in northern Garibaldi Provincial Park. Terrain: Sharp pointed, glaciated peaks with mixed geology, including some fine granite and gneiss. The majority of the glaciers are covered with deep snowpacks from mid-winter on. Valley bottoms tend to have steep sides--the classic "U-shaped" glacial valley walls, but alpine areas may have more moderate slopes and ridge systems tend to join several peaks in a group. History: The Spearhead Range has been of interest to recreationalists over the past 40 years or so. The first traverse of the range, creating the classic "Spearhead Traverse," was completed in the 1960's.
