Redoubt Volcano

Below is a description of the photograph you were looking for, and the circumstances surrounding the photo.

Photographer: C.A. Neal (Alaska Volcano Observatory/USGS) Inserted By: Kevin Altheim

Technical: unknown
Date: 2005.07.07
Vantage Point:
From Airplane from the N

Technical: unknown

Caption: The N side of Redoubt Volcano.

Story: This is one of the most active volcanoes in the Cook Inlet area, and is classified as a stratovolcano. The summit crater was breached and then became the home of the headmass of the Drift Glacier, which drains out of the crater down the N side of the mountain to form the Piedmont Lobe which is out of the picture at lower left. The Piedmont Lobe is a huge lobe of the glacier that drained out below the mountain in the Drift River valley, and is virtually covered by rocks (AVO had a pic of the Lobe).
