Caption: Fossil Mountain can be seen here just beyond Ptarmigan Lake. The pass seen here just to the left of and below the mountain is Deception Pass. In the extreme background and near the center is Mt. Douglas. Just to the right of this is Mt. Saint Bride.

Story: Boulder Pass and the Skoki Valley is a spectacular area with many accessible scrambles. Fossil Mountain is a great example and is located near the head of the Skoki Valley, just east of Deception Pass. Deception Pass is the gateway to the Skoki Valley and is located immediately northeast of Ptarmigan Lake. Fossil Mountain is an easy scramble up its west side from Deception Pass. This can be done as a day trip by stronger parties. There are great views in all directions from the summit.
