| Barbeau Peak Below is a description of the photograph you were looking for, and the circumstances surrounding the photo. Photographer: Courtesy: Eric Philips/icetrek.com Inserted By: Kevin Altheim Technical: unknown Technical: unknown Caption: The east side of Barbeau Peak clearly showing its well defined ridges Story: This was the most wanted picture on the wanted list so I did a Google search and found this one as well as some others. I then contacted the owner and explained Bivouac to him, and thus got permission to publish it, with credit, of course. It seems once you tell people about Bivouac they do not mind us using their pictures as long as credit is given. This one is from Eric Phillips who is part of Icetrek.com, which specializes in Arctic and Antarctic expeditions. This pic is from Eric's first polar expedition. In 1992, with Dr. Richard Smith and Nick Fairfax, Eric skied across Ellesmere's northern and largest icecap and made an ascent of Barbeau Peak, which is the island's (and Nunavut's) highest mountain. The ascent was possibly the first from sea level (at that time of course). It consisted of 23 days and 300 km of pure ice and mountain wilderness.
