Mount Shasta in Early Winter
This peak is #5 on the Height List for California . This peak is #2 in Prominence List for California . Mount Shasta is the second highest of the Cascade Volcanoes. Several glaciers are located high on the mountain. The standard summit route starts from the parking lot at Bunny Flat. A trail leads past a horse camp to a basin called Avalanche Gulch. The route continues through a rock band called Red Banks and up a snow slope known as Misery Hill to the summit plateau. The summit pinnacle is usually climbed from the west.
