| This summit is the principal peak south of Mt. Argyll on the Filer-Montrose divide. It has massive slabby faces on all sides but the west and northeast, where ridges join it to adjacent peaks. The south face drops 1500m to Montrose Creek. Name Notes: Named for the battle of Benburb 1646 in the Irish Confederate wars, in the time of Sir Walter Raleigh and in particular Argyll and Montrose. The Covenanters were a radical presbyterian movement. The battle of Benburb was between the forces of Confederate Ireland and the Covenanters. The battle ended the Scottish hopes of conquering Ireland. | | Route Summaries exist for this mountain, but are only available to paid members. Become a paid member now. |
