| Golden Ears is the highpoint of the divide between Gold Creek and Pitt Lake in Golden Ears Provincial Park. It's a popular destination for local hikers, probably because the Golden Ears massif with its multiple summits is visible from almost anywhere around Vancouver and the lower Fraser Valley. From Gold Creek, a trail with 1500 m elevation gain leads to its summit . Map here Name Notes: The mountain's name is reportedly (BC Place Names, Akrigg and Akrigg) derived from the original name which was Golden Eyries, after the golden eagles which nested on or near the mountain. But, the 'Ears' name is appropriate because the summit has two peaks which do look a bit like ears from some viewpoints. |
