Nootka Island Trail

Author: Mike Peel
Shows the perimeter trail around Nootka Island. In March 1778 , Captain James Cook of the Royal Navy visited Friendly Cove, Nootka Island, in the ship "Resolution" - thus becoming the first European to set foot on B.C. soil. A Spanish port was maintained here between 1789 - 1795. Nootka Island was an important focal point for English, Spanish and American traders and explorers.
