| Range Short Definition: A "range" is a named group of mountains, usually separated from other mountains by low passes. Discussion: Bivouac maintains a hierarchy of the officially named Mountain Ranges for North America. Note that there are lots of holes in such a hierarchy at the lower levels, because many of the large ranges are not completely subdivided into subranges. For example, there are numerous small ranges scattered throughout the coast range, but they don't cover the whole coast range.
See also the Bivouac mountain region hierarchy, which IS exhaustive.
